Our Story

Moderne Primitives was opened in 1995 by Phil Azancot. 

The original building was located where the parking lot is now and focused on 90s counter culture, piercings and all things strange....

Phil's wife Sandy opened Dermagraphics, the Tattoo shop next door, in 1990

The store moved into its current building in the mid 2000's and multiple other locations were opened including Longview, Shreveport and Domino. 

Inventory started shifting from the metaphysical to the smoke shop we still are today.

Sandy took over ownership of the shop in 2014 and it flourished. She poured into the shop and made making many improvements, turning it into a loved staple in Texarkana. 

Liz Standridge started working part time at Moderne in 2012 

and purchased the business from Sandy in 2026.

Liz has been working behind the scenes curating the incredible selection of hemp, kratom and smoking accessories that you've come to rely on us for.
